Deforestation is when forests (a collection of trees in which the tree tops touch to form a canopy) and woodlands (a group of trees that are spaced further apart)are demolished. This is often done for lumber, firewood, cattle pastures, and farm land. The term deforestation does not include the removal of trees from agricultural estates or industrial forests.
