Is there a solution?

Is there a solution?

What can we do as individuals, as a nation, as a world to save our Rainforests?  Here is a short list of ways we can begin to make a difference:
  1. World Wide Education is needed on:
    • Why the rainforest is important to our existence-
    • What causes of deforestation and its ramifications?
    • How does deforestation disrupt the water cycle and the earth’s climate?
    • Which products that are being demanded are most responsible for the destruction of the rainforests?
    • Educate the consumer and give them access product information to allow them to reject products that are destroying the Rainforest and choose products whose manufacturers are doing everything in their power to protect the Rainforest.
    • Brainstorm, come up with solutions and alternatives that would positively impact the rainforests by slowing down or stopping deforestation.
    • Become environmentally conscious as individuals, corporations, & Countries
  1. Regulate commercial logging, create incentives and enforce these rules and laws
  2. Require industries to replace a percentage of the trees that is has destroyed by logging or burning.
  3. Global participation and rewards for creating recycling plants and utilizing recycled paper.
  4. Implement legislation that would curtail the causes of deforestation and penalize substantially those who violate the laws.
  5. Protect Rainforests by creating national parks or sanctuaries, which would prevent businesses from destroying the rainforests.  By protecting the Rainforest itself, the plants and animals of the Rainforest are also protected.
  6. Implement Reforestation –The replanting of trees in areas that have been deforested.
  7. Afforestation-The planting of trees in an area of open land.
  8. Create Commercial forest plantations for wood that is required for industry.
  9. Implement water management-Industries that clear land for cattle or farming need water.  They build dams without thinking about the consequences of the areas that will now be deprived of water while other areas obtain an abundance.  Wildlife needs water to survive.
  10. Save the rainforest by having rich countries pay poor countries to preserve their rainforest.  Although it would seem like a lot of money to subsidize poor countries the amount that they would make if they cut down the forest for industries, in the long run, the benefits would far surpass that dollar amount.
